'Thank you Sandy, my Hypnobirth was a wonderful experience with the most wonderful present at the end, our gorgeous little boy Sam.'
Tanya and James - Sam 2013

'I have given birth to two children with the help of Hypnobirthing.  I was able to remain calm and focused on both occasions and strongly believe it helped me avoid a C section with my first child.  My second child came before we could get to hospital, It was the most beautiful moment, knowing that using my own strength, supported by the people I loved and the HypnoBirthing techniques, I had brought my son into the world in a completely natural, safe, quiet, calm and effective way.'
Natalie and Ron -  Ruby 2009 and James 2013

'Thank you Sandy for another amazing Hypnobirthing experience with our second baby Zoe this year, when we were told induction was necessary due to low amniotic fluid at week 39 I was devastated, but having you there with me as my Doula gave me the strength and courage to do it my way despite the intervention of induction, and we had a beautiful drug free birth again'
Caitlin and Andrew - Zoe 2013

'Dear Sandy, we are so grateful that you helped us have the birth we wanted.  Hypnobirthing not only educated us about childbirth, it washed away our fears and empowered my husband and I to make informed decisions.  At 41 weeks and one day due to special circumstances I was induced, however I laboured quietly and gave birth without needing any pain medication.  My most cherished memory was of the bonding moments after the birth of our daughter.  I am so grateful that I was able to experience such and intense and amazing event and that I am able to recall the birth so vividly.  Arya was so alert,  I think Hypnobirthed babies have a special spark and it shows in her eyes.  Thank you HypnoBirthing.
Jean-ne and Stuart - Arya 2013

"Induced at 36 weeks was not how my birthing plan read!  However, equipped with the techniques and knowledge I had learnt through my Hypnobirthing sessions with Sandy, I was ready to birth my little boy.  My healthy little boy was born 7 hours later, that first hug with him is unforgettable."
Mel and Cam - Angus 2012

'Thankyou Sandy for helping me get my head in the right frame of mind before giving birth. Hypnobirthing helped me tremendously!'
Crystal and Daniel - Leila 2012

'Thank you so much Sandy for your teachings, offerings and unwavering support of our whole family during the birth of our daughter Phoenix. We truly believe that Hypnobirthing allowed us to labour and birth in such a calm and positive way. Phoenix 's being and temperament are testament to this.'
Brooke and Adrian - Phoenix 2012

'My wish is that all pregnant women are given the knowledge that their bodies are perfectly designed to give birth, and how wonderful birthing can be … it is so sad that we associate it with pain and just wanting to get it over with, when it just doesn’t have to be this way. Do yourself a favour and learn Hypnobirthing – the techniques will prove beneficial not only during the pregnancy & birth but also for life in general with a newborn!'.'

Rebekah and Paul - Ebony 2012

'I am so pleased we learned Hypnobirthing, it was such an amazing experience, one that so many women don't realise they can have.'
Thankyou so much Sandy!! xxoo
Corinne and Mishi - Charlie 2011

'Thank you so much for the fantastic Hypnobirthing training, your support and love during and after my son Axel's birth.'

Debbie and Heinrich - Axel 2011

'Hypnobirthing is brilliant. I asked for a 3 hr labour, and in fact active labour was 3 hours and 15 mins. During labour and birth, the Hypnobirthing skills allowed me to remain calm and focused, despite the midwives yelling at me 'Push! Push!' I didn't need to push I just breathed my beautiful daughter into this world.'

Peny and Julien - Delphine 2010

'I would strongly encourage anyone who is wanting a calm, natural and pain free birth to use the Hypnobirthing methods – it is well worth it and you will have the most amazing, empowering experience you could imagine! I know we will definitely do it again if we have another baby in the future!'
Caitlin and Andrew - Rhys 2010

'Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! For everything. Sandy, you are a great spirit with a massive strength and light inside. Keep spreading the Hypnobirthing word. I look forward to to having my next baby with you.'
Michelle and Orren - Shilo 2010

'We highly recommend Sandy and Hypnobirthing to anyone wanting a natural, loving and gentle birth.'

Jessica and David - Benedict 2014 and Rawden 2012

Hi Sandy,

Not sure if you remember us, but my husband and I studied hypno-birthing through you in 2012 for our first baby boy, Rawden. We just wanted to send you a follow up email to let you know that in May this year we had a second baby boy, Benedict Ashton Smith-Chitty, and although we didn't take any follow up classes (we felt confident enough to just revisit it ourselves) we had a beautiful, calm, water birth at home through the Casey Hospital home birth program.

David and I just wanted to say thank you once again for the lessons you taught us which gave us the confidence to not only seek but also attain the birth experience of our dreams.

Warmest regards,
Jessica and David

(PS. I've attached two pictures, the first is one of our first pictures with Benedict just moments after his birth, and the second is a picture of Ben with his older brother, two happy little hypno-birthing babies).

Hypnobirthing can work anywhere!

Corinne and Mishi birthed their second baby in the car on the way to hospital!

I taught Hypnobirthing to Corinne my niece and husband Mishi, for the birth of their first child.  Then she became a Hypnobirthing teacher herself, and went on to birth her second baby in the car on the way to the hospital. A calm and relaxed natural birth.

Sandy

Tanya and James - Sam 2013

Thank you to Sandy of BirthEasy Melbourne for teaching us the Hypnobirthing technique.  During the quick birth of my first son I was extremely thankful to have been given some tools to make the birth a memorable experience.  The rainbow relaxation was very helpful to get me through the drive to the hospital.  The breathing techniques practised throughout the course enabled me to work through the surges and helped me to bring my heart rate down to allow my unborn sons heart rate to come back up.  My husband was prepared and set up the room and spoke to the midwives about our birth preferences and was calm and supportive throughout, which he attributes to the hypnobirthing course.  I also highly recommend the daily affirmations as one rang through my head consistently during the birth and that was 'I am prepared to meet whatever turn my birthing takes'. Thank you Sandy, my birth was a wonderful experience with the most wonderful present at the end, our gorgeous little boy Sam.

Natalie and Ron - Ruby 2009 and James 2013

I have given birth to two children with the help of Hypnobirthing. My first labour was long and intense, and for over 24 hours I used only music and the hypnobirthing techniques to manage the sensations while labouring in hospital. When my labour became complicated and I required medical intervention I continued to use the Hypnobirthing techniques to manage my pain and anxiety. I believe the fact that I was able to remain calm and focused throughout the process helped me avoid a caesarian. For my son's birth three years later, I laboured at home alone in the early hours of the morning, again using music and hypnobirthing techniques. This time we had hired Sandy to not only provide our refresher course on Hypnobirthing but to also be our birth Doula. This time around, I just felt that I needed her to be there for the birth. As my labour progressed and the sun started to come up, I called Sandy, woke my husband and continued to labour comfortably in our lounge room. As the surges became more intense, I continued to use Hypnobirthing techniques with the support of my husband and Sandy. As my surges were never regularly five minutes apart I didn't think I needed to call the hospital, however, all of a sudden they became much more intense and I knew the baby was coming sooner rather than later! As my husband called the hospital and then an ambulance, I readied myself to give birth. I went deeper into myself and used my energy and focus to relax and let my body and my baby work together. I could feel the baby moving down, and I felt the need to be in a squatting position. After a few minutes my son's head was out, and in the following surge, he was born. Sandy scooped him up and handed him to me while my husband, mum, daughter and a bemused paramedic looked on. It was the most beautiful moment, knowing that using my own strength, supported by the people I loved and the Hypnobirthing techniques, I had brought my son into the world in a completely natural, safe, quiet, calm and effective way.

Errin and Paul - Kalden 2013

Sandy was just what I needed during the last weeks of my pregnancy, birth and when welcoming our baby boy Kalden into the world. I knew that I wanted to try for a natural birth but was completely in the dark as to where to start to make that happen. I am so glad that we found Sandy as an extended family friend. The Hypnobirthing books and associated classes just made so much sense and while we didn’t do our homework as well as we could have, come 1am when my contractions started I didn’t feel any fear or apprehension….. just a little excitement. Because of Sandy’s teaching I was confident to stay at home for several hours until I felt it was time to head into hospital. Once there and we met up with Sandy the hospital staff faded into the background while I proceeded to have the wonderful relaxed water birth that I wanted – despite several mishaps by the hospital. By allowing my body and my baby to direct proceedings, with gentle reminders from Sandy, my birth was gentle with no fear, no extreme pain, or any tearings and my baby boy emerged healthy and calm.  I was also home within hours and ready to greet family and friends the next day. I would recommend Hypnobirthing and Sandy’s wonderful warm services to anyone seeking a natural and enjoyable birth.

Caitlin and Andrew - Zoe 2013

After our amazing water Hypnobirth in 2010 with Sandy as our Doula we had no hesitation in having her with us for the birth of our second baby.

At week 32 Sandy gave us a Hypnobirthing refresher course and I spent time re-reading the Hypnobirthing book.

Our pregnancy went without incident until week 32 when our little girl started measuring small - she seemed to stay 2 weeks behind in fundal height right up to week 38, then the last ultrasound showed my amniotic fluid had diminished greatly and we were strongly advised to induce.

I was devastated - I thougth that my dreams of having another drug free, natural water birth were out the window.  Sandy reassured me we could still do as close to it as possible despite the restrictions of being monitored right through labour and having the induction.

I have never been so pleased to see someone as when Sandy arrived after I had been induced, I felt a little disempowered but Sandy put the positive vibes back into me and helped me focus to avoid several interventions which were suggested.

Little Zoe arrived after only 4.5 hours of active labour and weighed in at only 2.68kg (5lb 14oz), she was perfect and passed all the apgar tests with flying colours, no distress at all.

I experienced some back pain whilst awaiting the birth of the placenta but Sandy helped me through this with some lavendar oil massage on my lower back which helped immensely.

I was quite scared about being induced and know that often once women are induced the cascade of intervention often follows, but we stuck to our birth plan as closely as possible and were still able to achieve an amazing empowering experience, despite not being able to labour or birth in the water as we had with Rhys.

Two very different but both positive births for me thanks to Hypnobirthing and my amazing Hypnodoula Sandy.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts Sandy, we are truly blessed to have you in our lives.

Jean-ne and Stuart - Arya 2013

I have been told that induced labours are more painful than natural onset labours, Arya was 15 days overdue, we gave her lots of time to choose her own birthday but her amniotic fluid and heart rate were becoming dangerously low so we made the decision for an induction even though we wanted a natural birth; a live, healthy baby was more important, yes; the surges were so intense that it took every ounce of my being to hang in there; what got me through without asking for pain medication?; was the knowledge acquired in our Hypnobirthing classes which also compelled us to become even more informed and this lead to more investigating on our own.

The knowledge that the drugs used to combat the pain would inhibit my own body’s natural pain relief which is actually stronger than the drugs they use,

The knowledge that pain medications usually slow labour so you’re in pain for longer (kind of the opposite of what you were going for),

The knowledge that I could lose some of my faculties and not remember every amazing minute,

The knowledge that because I would have less ability to push if given pain medication that, the chance of being able to give birth without forceps is very low and could even lead to a caesarean, but more importantly the knowledge that the drugs enter the baby’s bloodstream and effect it’s breathing and ability to breastfeed (15% of women who choose to breastfeed cannot due to their milk not coming in “lactation failure”), and a drop in the mother’s blood pressure that affects how much blood is pumped to the placenta, and can lead to less oxygen being available to the baby,I could not do that to my little girl.

But then came the fun stuff, the actual birth, when my baby was being born; no pain, not one bit, I actually want to do that part again, this is the part that most people are fearful of, well you shouldn’t be, it was a fascinating and awesomely great experience.  I had been doing my perineum massage for a few weeks beforehand and I can tell you it was due to the HypnoBirthing techniques and the preparation I had done before hand  with massage that I had hardly a tear to be seen and she was a big overdue girl, over 8 pounds (I am only a little 5foot 1 person), out she came, no problems. I would do it all again.

This is a little of why Hypnobirthing has made me a better parent because it is also helped me after the birth and I use it every day.

Hypnobirthing helped me stay relaxed and to be there for my baby to comfort her with love.

Mel and Cam - Angus 2012

Induced at 36 weeks was not how my birthing plan read!  However, equipped with the techniques and knowledge I had learnt through my Hypnobirthing sessions with Sandy, I was ready to birth my little boy.  I set the birthing room up with the smell of lavender, my relaxation music and informed the nurses about HypnoBirthing.  As my labour progressed the breathing techniques were used through each surge and my partners hand to squeeze.  My healthy little boy was born 7 hours later, that first hug with him is unforgettable.

Rebekah and Paul - Ebony 2012

Hypnobirthing changed my life long before I even became pregnant. I had so many negative beliefs, fears and anxieties that were preventing me from falling pregnant in the first place. The only way I wanted to birth was through caesarian & a general anaesthetic … not wanting to know or be a part of the experience at all. I was terrified at the thought of it.
I came across Hypnobirthing several years ago and was slowly able to turn all this around. It gave me a completely different perspective and challenged all the negativity that we are constantly bombarded with in society. I found the affirmations particularly beneficial and helpful with this.
Sandy’s classes were uplifting, informative and empowering. My Husband and I both felt well prepared and were in a position to make informed choices rather than going along with what others told us to do and letting them take control.
My birth experience was not quite what I had hoped or planned for … not the calm, waterbirth I had envisioned. It was however, a short, easy 2hr labour all the same so I really can’t complain! Hypnobirthing gave me the confidence to trust in my body fully, work together with my body & my baby –trusting that both knew what to do, and to know that it was possible to have an easy, comfortable, beautiful birth experience.
My wish is that all pregnant women are given the knowledge that their bodies are perfectly designed to give birth, and how wonderful birthing can be … it is so sad that we associate it with pain and just wanting to get it over with, when it just doesn’t have to be this way. Do yourself a favour and learn Hypnobirthing – the techniques will prove beneficial not only during the pregnancy & birth but also for life in general with a newborn!'.

Crystal and Daniel - Leila 2012

Left - Dad Daniel having some skin to skin time with Leila.

Hypnobirthing was the best decision I could have ever made.
I went into labour at about 8am on Friday 27th of July, 2012. I wanted to stay at home as long as possible. My surges were a little all over the place and it was a long labour so a lack of sleep made it a little hard but I knew that each surge was one down. I spent 4 hours labouring in the bath and my waters released at 6.30am. Leila Em was born just after 7am weighing in at 5lb 9oz (2.54kg).  We did skin on skin bonding immediately.

I only had a slight tear which didn't require stitches. The team midwives were fantastic and let me do my own thing, they were extremely supportive.

Thank you Sandy for helping me get my head in the right frame of mind before giving birth. Hypnobirthing helped me tremendously!

Corinne and Mishi - Charlie 2011

Throughout the day the 'cramps' became stronger and by the time Mish got home in the afternoon around 2 or 3 I couldn't sit still. I wasn't in pain but I was uncomfortable sitting in the same spot for any length of time. I started timing the surges and they were 15 mins apart and lasting about 5 mins. At 6pm I went to the toilet and the uterine seal came out! I looked online to see how long after this the labour would start and lots of people were saying it can be hours or even days so I didn't really pay attention to this, I still felt rather comfortable and figured I was just in practise labour which I had had for months before the day. I kept needing to go to the bathroom to empty my bowels and realised that we had talked about this in class and realised 'this is it!', excitement!!! At about 9 the surges were 5-10 mins apart and Mish phoned the hospital. Got to the hospital at 12:30 am on Monday Morning. They hooked me up to the fetal heart rate monitor and were a little concerned about his low heartrate. They found that he was sleeping after having me hooked up to the thing for like 2 hours. I had chosen to use the shower as my pain relief method and they couldnt get the wireless monitor to work so they hooked me up to the other which meant I had to stay on the bed! This was very hard for me as my body just wanted and needed to move and get under the water. We worked very hard to stay focused and relaxed but the stress of worrying about a potentially stressed baby started to get to me.

Mish was such a fabulous birthing partner and continued to reassure me that I was doing a great job at staying calm and that our baby was just fine. At about 330 am I told the mid wife I needed to push and she basically told me I was being ridiculous and that no I wasn't ready ( I imagine she thought I was just in transition). Because I refused to let her do an internal examination she wouldn't have known how open my cervix was. I persisted with the 'I am going to breathe this baby out' monologue as she now was pretty much ignoring me until she looked down and saw that something was coming out!! I got on all fours and hugged the top of the bed and distinctly remember telling Mish and the midwife that I could feel the babies head nudging out and that it was an incredible feeling. About 5-10 mins later his head popped out in the bag of waters which she had to cut open, about 3 big j breaths later he was out!! It was the strangest feeling ever! But no tearing or episiotomy just a perfectly easy birthing process!! Mish told me at first that he was a girl because the umbilical cord was covering his penis and then the midwife moved it and he told me we had a boY!!!! Mish was so emotional and I was just staring in amazement that the rather large baby I was holding just came out of me.Charlie was born at 4 am on Monday the 10th of January weighing in at 8lbs 4 oz (3.83kg) and attached beautifully to the breast after only 5 mins. His first feed lasted a whopping 40 mins. I am so pleased we learned Hypnobirthing, it was such an amazing experience, one that so many women don't realise they can have.Thankyou so much Sandy!! xxoo

Inspired by her amazing birth Corinne has recently become a HypnoBirthing practitioner and now lives in Bendigo.

Caitlin and Andrew - Rhys 2010

Caitlin and Andrew - son Rhys born 2010 at Frankston Hospital

Early on in the pregnancy we spoke to some close friends who had recently had a positive birth experience using the Hypnobirthing method.  I was keen to find out more and after some research I phoned Sandy Riley – a Hypnobirthing practitioner and Doula who lived in our area.  We started our hypnobirthing classes at around week 32 – 5 classes of 2 and a half hours duration.
We were lucky enough to have Sandy do the classes in our own home which was great.
Our prenatal classes started a week after and we found that the information Sandy gave us helped us understand the prenatal information and more importantly, our options a lot better.  We felt very well informed and confident about the labour and birth.  The breathing techniques, relaxations and visualisations practiced in  our Hypnobirthing classes were a huge factor in our overall positive labour and birth.
My total labour was 21 hours – only 5 of which was active labour.  Using the Hypnobirthing techniques which Sandy had taught us played a huge part in my relaxation throughout the labour and we were also helped immensely by having Sandy as our  birth Doula so she was present right through to help me stay relaxed.
We set up the birthing pool room with relaxation music, battery tea lights and dimmed lights which set the scene for a very relaxed space.  Throughout my labour and birth we did not have any intervention or pain relief and our little boy arrived safely in the birthing pool with myself, my partner Andrew, Sandy and two lovely encouraging and supportive midwives present.  It was a peaceful and sacred moment for us all !
I would strongly encourage anyone who is wanting a calm, natural and pain free birth to use the Hypnobirthing methods – it is well worth it and you will have the most amazing, empowering experience you could imagine!  I know we will definitely do it again if we have another baby in the future and I will be recommending HypnoBirthing to all of my friends.

Hospital HypnoBirth in a Birthing Pool 2010:

At the end of May 2010 I attended an amazing Hypnobirth (as a Hypno Doula) in a birthing pool at Frankston hospital and it certainly had the midwives talking .
Why? because it was a totally natural birth with no medication and no intervention.
The entire labour and birthing was calm and quiet with mother remaining focused.
Hypnobirthing breathing techniques were used as she laboured in the arms of her partner in the warm water.
Special music, dim lighting, flickering tea lights and aromatherapy oils were burning in the tranquil room as the midwives just observed the silence and reverence of these sacred moments.
Then the baby's head emerged along with the left hand, mother reaches down to hold her baby's hand.
With her next surge she breathed her baby into the water without any forceful pushing. It was such a gentle transition for the baby coming from water into water.
Mum then scooped up her baby and brought him to her bare chest.

Carolina and Ian - Kiandra 2010

We really wanted a calm, gentle and loving birth for our baby. We feel very lucky that we are able to look back on our baby’s birth with fond memories and pride. We really feel that we owe that to hypnobirthing and in particular, Sandy. Sandy was so informative, caring and helpful. We learned so much from her. She was so passionate; you could tell that she always had our best interests at heart.
I had a 6.5hr labour; the last 3.5hrs were quite difficult and I may have resorted to drugs if it wasn’t for HypnoBirthing as our little bub, Kiandra, was stuck in the canal for a long period of time. However, because I had Sandy there, as well as my husband, Ian, who had been prepared from Sandy’s classes, I felt supported and was able to remain calm. I was also focused on what I had learnt, such as controlled breathing and relaxing, as well as trusting that my body would know what to do on its own accord. Even though my body was pushing for 3.5hrs before Kiandra came out, her heart beat showed that she was at no time under any sign of distress.
With Sandy by our side as our Doula, it gave us a feeling like we were a team with a clear focus and goal. With her there, it gave us even more belief in ourselves that we would be able to execute all the things we had learnt from her previously. We were confident because of our extensive preparation, which was over 6 months, and on that night we felt like we were in control of our environment, the room, the breathing, the lighting and most importantly, ourselves. Everything was as we had planned and worked towards. We had set it out clearly on our birthing plan which Sandy had also helped us with. Sandy communicated well with the midwives, who were also so wonderful and supportive. We were very fortunate and honoured to have the people who were there in the room with us that night and who helped us do what we wanted to do, the way we wanted to do it.
We highly recommend Sandy and Hypnobirthing to anyone wanting a natural, loving and gentle birth.
